PRP undertook the first phase feasibility assessment and architectural design for a mixed use development in Chongqing, People's Republic of China. The development site forms part of a regeneration area formerly designated for industrial use.
PRP’s solution proposed the incorporation of an existing river on the border of the site within a landscaping scheme that provided one of the organising elements of the masterplan. Advice on sustainability issues and the incorporation of aerial gardens within the tower blocks assisted in the generation of an architectural language. Motor vehicles are largely excluded from the landscaped inner pedestrian precincts which allows for vibrant and sociable external spaces. The project comprises 157,000m² of residential area located in six 32 storey towers; 25,000m² of retail and leisure area that will include a hotel and 45,000m² of parking and ancillary space. Social, environmental and economic sustainability play a significant role in the development.
Construction commenced in 2007 and is scheduled for completion in early 2009.
