Moscow Economic School

Role: Architecture

The scheme is for a new private school for the Fund of Economic Development in Moscow. The brief is for 15,000m2 of floorspace which provides state of the art educational and recreational facilities for children in the age range from 3 to 17 years.

The school will be built in two phases with the nursery and primary school being the first which will also include an administrative building, medical and dining facilities, a small sports pavilion and swimming pool. This first phase is designed to be able to be operated independently from the rest of the school whilst also being physically linked and an integral part of the whole.

The heart of the school is a major double height entrance and meeting space with daylight streaming in from above. Language and arts classrooms adjoin this space along with the administrative and dining facilities. Linear study blocks either side are linked to this space by glazed bridges crossing a vertical winter garden zone. The main sports pavilion is designed to be a modular lightweight construction which can also be built in two phases.
