Abstract

The shortfall between the predicted demand for homes along with escalating house prices in London and the South East requires new approaches to both planning and delivering new homes as outlined in the 2004 Barker report Review of Housing Supply for HM Treasury. The Urban Task Force and other organisations have stressed the benefits of more intensive or compact developments in creating livelier and more sustainable places and the potential for changing attitudes through providing different housing products.
