Abstract

There is a climate of change in the UK housebuilding industry. Housebuilders are being pressured by market forces to reconsider their approach and government action is influencing planning authorities in the way consents are granted. The introduction of PPG3, and the revision of Building Regulations to improve access, energy efficiency, and acoustic performance, have all combined to force a thorough re-appraisal of housing design from the grass-roots upwards. A window of opportunity to revisit the basics has been created.
