In-Patient Facilities for Older People. Health building note 37.

2005

Abstract

This publication gives guidance for refurbishing in-patient facilities comprising of both intermediate care and facilities for people with dementia. Britain has an ageing population, it is estimated that by 2014 there will be more people over 65 years old than under 16 years old living in the UK. This change in age profile will impact on the type of healthcare required. It is acknowledged by the NSF that the physical environment plays a central role in delivering services that are patient-centred and promote health and independence.
