Abstract

The Joint Commissioning Partnership in Brent, a body comprising housing associations and the Council, commissioned this study to draw lessons from existing higher density housing to inform the proposed revision to SP17 on residential design in the Local Plan for Brent.

The challenge is to provide family flats that will last, and it has become necessary to test whether design standards applied to lower densities are adequate to ensure a long term sustainable future for new family high density housing. The report’s recommendations cover design, management and procurement.
