Greggs Wood regeneration scheme in Tunbridge Wells receives full planning

The Greggs Wood Estate in Sherwood, Tunbridge Wells has just received full planning permission for redevelopment by Tunbridge Wells Council.

The new development has been designed by PRP for Town and Country Housing Group and the application forms part of the wider Sherwood neighbourhood to the north east of Tunbridge Wells. The estate is located to the east of Greggs Wood Road and west of Gregg's Wood, an historic woodland and was given Town Green status in 2010. The new development will comprise up to 257 new homes, new retail units, community square and a neighbourhood park.

The development will comprise the following:

  • Demolition of the existing 176  two bedroom flats across 16 residential blocks
  • Demolition of a mixed use block, comprising three retail units and flats above
  • The construction of up to 257 new residential units across four phases including the potential for 45 homes for older people
  • Re-provision of existing retail units
  • New Neighbourhood Park and Community Square

Town and Country Housing Group and PRP have extensively consulted with local residents and stakeholders to create an integrated vision for the regeneration of Greggs Wood Estate.

Town and Country Housing Group comments:

"We are thrilled that planning consent has been given and that we can now press ahead with our commitment to regenerate the area. This will provide new and better homes, investment in the local economy, training and employment opportunities, and better leisure and recreational facilities."

PRP's Partner, Brendan Kilpatrick comments:

"It's fantastic news to have such overwhelming support for the scheme. The design concept which PRP adopted was to integrate the built form with the surrounding landscape and the dramatic backdrop of Gregg's Wood which borders the site."
