Mel Starrs

Out of respect for Mel's family we have delayed releasing a message from PRP.

With great sadness we inform you that Mel Starrs sadly collapsed at home last weekend on a perfectly normal Saturday morning.  All at PRP send our condolences to her family and friends and are deeply shocked by her passing.

Mel Starrs was devoted to environmental issues and was a very influential expert in BREEAM. She was an insatiable blogger and tweeter and was a member of several key industry groups. She had strong opinions about policy direction and was liked and respected by so many in the industry.  Her expertise, enthusiasm and commitment will be greatly missed by everyone at the practice.

Please see a link to Mel's Blog where her partner Mark has left a message with Just Giving details and the memorial service. We will be considering ways with Mark and Mel's family to permanently honour Mel's commitment to sustainability within the industry. We will confirm details in the future.

If you would like to leave a short comment in memory of Mel Starrs please do so below.

Sometimes words never seem to be easy to find, but with Mel’s passion to use her blog to communicate and to provide the support and challenge that we all need to make our built environment more sustainable, it is right that we try and find them at this very sad time.

Mel for me, and the many people who knew her at BRE was a great inspiration, always challenging, always passionate, always willing to help ensure we did the right thing. The grit in a conversation which would produce the pearl. We need more people like Mel, and in her passing it is a reminder that we should never dampen our enthusiasm or diminish our ambitions on what can be achieved. There are many people saddened by the news of Mel’s premature passing not just here at BRE, but across the industry, but we all stronger having met her.

Our thoughts are with Mel’s partner, family and friends at this terribly sad time. She will be sorely missed.

It was an amazing experience working with Mel, an amazingly intelligent and funny woman - she was an excellent consultant to have the pleasure to work with and I count myself very fortunate to have had that afforded to me
All my thoughts, best wishes and love to all at PRP and Mels family - she was a star in everyway and a lovely person

I only had the pleasure of meeting Mel I few times but was an avid follow on twitter. Mel had a very rare and much valued combination of the patience to carry out in depth research into a topic with the insight to challenge the status quo, make meaningful comment and offer carefully analysed solutions based on her findings. A sad loss to the cause for sustainability. My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues.
