PRP Landscape's ground breaking design, which won the BRE Innovation Park Sustainable Landscape competition in March, was revealed at INSITE09 – BRE’s four day showcase of low carbon and sustainable buildings – on Monday 1 June.
The winning design incorporates the latest in sustainable design and the key features include:
The ‘Homezone’ comprises an integrated system of recycled paving and streetscape planting supports ecological and improved biodiversity. The pedestrian and cycle link includes information break out points and picnic and seating areas, showcasing recycled street furniture, whilst the formal garden and central meeting point has integrated exposed aggregate concrete with coloured and imprinted designs.
Opportunities for the garden spaces associated with the new houses will be developed on completion of the new show houses to include: living screens, organic food production, waste recycling options, and bird, bat and hedgehog boxes.
David Ellis a member of the PRP design team commented on the official unveiling of the design: ‘Landscape has become a vital component not only in the creation of great places to live, but also in the provision of energy, waste and water management strategies for new developments. We hope that our pioneering approach on the Innovation Park will set new standards in landscape design that our design is well received by the public.’
PRP Landscape won the BRE Innovation Park Sustainable Landscape Competition as a consequence of the judges being hugely impressed with the level of creativity that was applied to the design. PRP were subsequently presented with the Award at this year's Ecobuild exhibition.
