Jericho, Oxford
Role: Architecture
Regeneration of an underused, brownfield site, re-establishing access to the canalside and the wider area whilst creating a new community focus, centred around a new square.
Our design for new apartments alongside one of Oxford's underused canals aims to create a new and sustainable development that contributes towards the vitality and distinctiveness of Jericho. The scheme aims to reflect and enhance the local vernacular and the setting of St Barnabas' Church to create an uplifting and characterful development - one which responds positively to the aspirations not only of Oxford City and British Waterways but also to those of the local community. Public access is encouraged to a new square in front of the west end of St Barnabas' Church. To maintain a sense of safety and security, this central space is well overlooked and promotes pedestrian activity. All car parking is cleverly accommodated out of sight.
