Role: Masterplanning, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture

A masterplan, green route and public realm strategy forming part of the regeneration framework for east Manchester, linking Beswick to central Manchester.

Beswick lies 1 mile east of Manchester City Centre, with a site area of 45 ha. The overall masterplan provides 1100 new dwellings, a new primary school, an additional upgraded primary school, a new secondary school, 1400m² of retail and 5000m² of commercial office space.

Residential development is split between private housing for sale and rent and social rental and shared ownership to accommodate an integral approach to tenure mix. PRP's approach has been to create unique and attractive places which enhance the quality of life for current and future generations. This includes cultivating a sense of place and creating a legible public realm and identifiable neighbourhoods.

Part of this process has involved close liaison with the community, including community consultation to develop a consensus on the framework masterplan and vision.
