PRP has been selected by Manchester based urban regeneration company NEM to develop a vision for the Toxteth Street Area in Openshaw. Located 3 miles east of Manchester city centre, the current site occupies 14 hectares of dense terraced housing in poor condition. Based on a thorough community consultation process, the proposals comprise 432 new properties, sports and community facilities, integrated retained residential and commercial properties and a new street pattern. The masterplan will be carefully phased to minimise disruption to the existing residents over the 12 year development programme. The rejuvenation of Toxteth Street is the latest project to arise from NEM’s Regeneration Framework – ‘A New Town in The City’, which sets out the basis for development in East Manchester over the next 10-15 years. Phase 1 is currently on site and due for completion early 2010.
