Client: Birmingham City Council, Urban Living Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder
Role: Multi-disciplinary appointment including stakeholder engagement and public consultation
PRP was appointed to develop an area wide strategic masterplan and implementation plan for the regeneration of the Newtown area - an area of over 2,300 homes within the Urban Living Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder.
The regeneration and implementation plan provided for all sectors of activity alongside housing including education, healthcare, leisure, open space, infrastructure, commercial and employment useage.
The creation of the masterplan was an interactive and inclusive process, involving close collaboration and exchange of ideas between client, community, stakeholders and design team. To ensure that the community and stakeholders had a real involvement in the development of the proposals, an extensive consultation and participation strategy was developed resulting in two rounds of stakeholder engagement events including client and partner workshops, roving exhibitions on a community bus, questionnaires and focus groups, In addition we ran new housing workshops with local primary school children, focus groups in Care Homes and a regeneration forum with 25 sixteen year old boys from a British / Bengali and Black British / Caribbean youth group.
