Role: Landscape Architecture
Architect: Skidmore Owings & Merrill Inc
The starting point for the landscape design was drawn from the strong architectural form of the building and the patterns from Arabic forms. The voronoi pattern derived from the architectural layout sets out the landscape spaces between buildings and the internal courtyards.
A theme of water is also used throughout the scheme, seemingly flowing from the entrance through the building connecting the various pools to finally reach the beach. The level changes through the site are used to create cascades and waterfalls.
Planting utilises tropical and exotic plants which thrive in hot climates of Qatar. Palm trees define the edges of the site and form a high canopy structure, whilst smaller palms and trees provide the shade necessary to enjoy the outside environment.
