Ontario Tower, London

Client: Ballymore Properties Limited

Role: Project Management / Landscape Architecture

Architect: Skidmore Owings & Merrill Inc

Ontario Tower involved the design of the public realm and landscape around a residential tower and hotel including a riverside garden and walkway. The concept was based around river eyots seen on the river Thames, creating gondola shaped islands.

As well as some difficult level changes, technical challenges included building over basement car parks and incorporating venting within the scheme. The planting design reflects the strong form of the planters using a simple palette of plants with accent planting creating further interest. At night the gardens are lit subtly using a variety of lighting effects providing drama and interest.

This scheme received a Landscape Institute award for design in 2008.
