Clay Farm, Cambridge

Client: Crest Nicholson and Linden Homes

Role: Masterplanning, Urban Design and Environmental Consultancy

We are working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including highways, landscape and planning consultants, to produce an urban design framework and subsequent masterplan for the Clay Farm site in Cambridge.

This new residential urban extension in southern Cambridge will deliver up to 2,300 new dwellings, infrastructure and community facilities, including schools and a neighbourhood centre with local shops. On-site landscaped open spaces will be supported by an attractive new park land with sports and recreation facilities.

The development structure is based on a spine road, or high street, that runs from north to south through the development via the new neighbourhood centre. A bus service connects the new extension with the centre of Cambridge. The route is the backbone of the development from which the masterplan grows. The character and scale of the spine road changes as it passes through the scheme, responding to different densities and landscape conditions.
