Royal Foundation of St Katharine, Tower Hamlets

Role: Interior Design, Architecture and Landscape Architecture

The remodelling and extension of a religious Retreat House and Conference Centre at 2 Butcher Row.

The existing buildings, which comprised a Grade ll listed 18th Century Vicarage with 1950’s extensions and chapel, provided conference, residential and administrative accommodation and a central dining room for short stay periods.

PRP remodelled the existing 1950’s residential accommodation and extend the facility to provide as many bedrooms with en-suite facilities as possible whilst extending the existing buildings to create an enlarged dining room, a lounge and a new conference centre for 50 delegates. The residential accommodation was extended by an additional 14 study bedrooms with en suite facilities to provide a total of 40 bedrooms.

The new extension wraps around the existing landscaped courtyard with its mature trees incorporating an outdoor amphitheatre as an additional lecture area when weather permits. PRP’s commission included the interior and the landscape design. The Chapel was refurbished under a separate contract.
