Broadbridge Heath, Horsham

Client: Land West
Role: Masterplanning

The vision for South Broadbridge Heath is to create a sensitive extension to the village, creating a new central focus at the heart of the extended community.

The site area for development south of Broadbridge Heath is approximately 48 hectares. A new Neighbourhood Centre will create a visual and social focus for the community, for existing residents of Broadbridge Heath as well as those in the new development. The centre will provide mixed uses including a doctors’ surgery, a parish office, a public house/family restaurant, local retail outlets, employment space and the site for a new school.

Green corridors will create a link between the countryside and the existing edge of the village. The development is based upon incorporating a permeable street pattern and hierarchy that creates places with identifiable streetscape sequences. Landmark and accent buildings, focal points and node spaces combined with continuous frontages in key strategic locations, enhance the sense of place and provide a strong legible street network.

The development will have a strong identity founded upon the local character, architecture and landscape of the existing village, but is also independent with its own distinct qualities. Overall, the development will also form an integrated part of the strategic masterplan for Land West of Horsham.
