The proposals had earlier been rejected by the local planning authority on grounds of scale, mass, residential amenity and impact on the setting of an adjacent listed building. PRP presented a detailed planning case at an informal hearing to justify the proposals in the context of precedent planning appeals and to offer a critique of each of the Council’s specific concerns against Local Plan policies.
In addition to the appeal being upheld, PRP was also successful in arguing for the deletion of a number of planning conditions proposed by the Council. The Inspector also concluded that a Section 106 agreement sought by the Council in respect of affordable housing provision was not required.
