Haggerston West & Kingsland Estate, Hackney

Client: London and Quadrant Housing Trust and Taylor Wimpey
Role: Planning, Masterplanning, Architecture, Urban Design and Consultation

PRP secured outline planning consent for the regeneration of the Haggerston West and Kingsland Estates. The proposals comprise demolition of 486 existing homes and redevelopment of 761 new homes and associated community and retail uses.

The proposals create a high quality, high density residential environment and will result in significant improvements to this area of Hackney. The resulting scheme reflects extensive negotiations with the Council and detailed consultation with local residents.

PRP led negotiations with the local authority and the GLA and co-ordinated the submission of the outline application. PRP Planning produced a detailed supporting statement offering a justification in terms of housing mix and tenure, open space provision, tall buildings, financial obligations and renewable energy. A key part of the justification was based upon the development of 343 homes for private sale to cross subsidise the significant investment required to re-provide existing affordable housing. Following the grant of planning consent, PRP has been reappointed by the client to co-ordinate the reserved matters application for Phase 1 of the development.
