Client: London Borough of Richmond
Role: Architecture
A celebration of further education, revitalising existing buildings and providing new facilities to meet the changing needs of the school.
PRP has completed the first phase, a new mathematics, science centre and library, following the preparation of a multiphased masterplan to deliver the Borough's vision to integrate post 16 education at Shene School.
The concept was to identify the best areas of the existing buildings which could provide excellent refurbished accommodation for teaching and dining facilities, complemented by sensitively placed, high performing new buildings for the displaced technology faculty.
The new Sixth Form facility was created by an imaginative conversion of the existing mathematics block. The new layout of the building creates an environment which provides greater independence for more mature pupils. Students will have access to new ICT facilities and will be provided with a dedicated on-line learning space to support their personalised learning plan.
As well as six mathematics classrooms the new building provides a library, lift and access strategy to comply with current standards on inclusive design.
