Toxteth Street, Openshaw

Client: New East Manchester

Role: Masterplanning and Architecture

PRP has been selected by Manchester based urban regeneration company NEM to develop a vision for the Toxteth Street Area in Openshaw. Located 3 miles east of Manchester city centre, the current site occupies 14 ha of dense terraced housing in poor condition.

Working alongside Lovell and Family Housing, PRP will liaise with the local community to deliver a neighbourhood plan which will provide 500 new dwellings, community and retail facilities. The masterplan will be carefully phased to minimise disruption to the existing residents over the 7 year development programme.

In total 432 units will be provided. Phase 1a has been completed with 83 handed over. Phase1 totals 114 units. 520 units have been demolished through CPO.

The rejuvenation of Toxteth Street is the latest project to arise from NEM's Regeneration Framework – 'A New Town in The City', which sets.out the basis for development in East Manchester over the next 10-15 years.
