About Sustainable Design

Our commitment to sustainability lies at the heart of our corporate and social responsibility policy, which encompasses the promotion of sustainable design practices and extends to reducing our own carbon footprint.

We have built a large specialist team in sustainability and our international body of work has enabled us to be best placed to respond to the increasingly demanding environmental targets set by national or regional legislation, in the UK and overseas.

Whether we are designing single buildings, masterplanning large-scale new communities, working on regeneration, education or - increasingly important - works to existing buildings, we embrace the principles of sustainable design in its fullest sense i.e. from the social, environmental and economic perspective.

We have an ongoing monitoring programme and CO² reduction targets for our own operations in place. We are embarking on a major evaluation of our built projects to benefit the Campaign for Real Data, which we support in the quest for better all round performance of the built environment. Our internal Environmental Management System is now ISO 14001 accredited - an internationally recognised benchmark of best practice in quality assurance.

We are a founding member of the UK Green Building Council, an organisation that seeks to promote and create opportunities for the design of the sustainable and low carbon built environment in the UK. We also actively collaborate and campaign for sustainable design through our membership of The Construction Industry Environment Forum, The Association for Environmentally Conscious Building, the Existing Homes Alliance and the Green Register.
