Kennet Island Village, Reading

Client: St James Homes

Role: Architecture, Masterplanning and Landscape Architecture

HIGHLY COMMENDED Best Design - Housebuilding Innovation Awards 2009

This former sewage works in Reading was redeveloped to create a desirable new sustainable community. The 28 hectare site provides 1150 homes, a 200 bed hotel, office space, community centre, local shops and a public house.

Residential density gradually increases at the heart of the development around the central square where there is a focus on the community facilities and shops.

PRP developed an architectural language that met the aspirations of the local authority for good contemporary buildings and the client's desire to build a well designed and popular new urban quarter.
