
New research analysing some of today’s exemplary European eco-town projects has identified critical factors behind each development’s independent success – PRP, URBED and Design for Homes have launched their initial findings as they feel these results could hold the key to UK eco-town development. These emerging research results were released as the government concluded its first consultation on its paper, Eco Towns: Living a Greener Future.
The Existing Homes Alliance, a newly formed coalition of distinguished housing and environmental organisations, businesses and government agencies, is spearheading concerted action to reduce the environmental impact of the UK’s existing housing stock (1). The organisation has set out the action it believes is required from government and industry to tackle the energy inefficiencies and high carbon emissions caused by the UK’s 26 million existing homes.

PRP has joined forces with UAE-based practice Architects International to form a new joint venture which will trade under the name of PRP - Architects International (PRP-Ai). The decision to enter into this partnership and establish a firm presence in the Middle East follows PRP’s first project win in Abu Dhabi – a Sustainable Administration Facility (SAF) for the zero carbon Masdar development.
