PRP Architects one of the UK’s leading urban regeneration specialists have designed an innovative housing scheme for Ward Homes, providing a modern, urban response to city living in Maidstone.

The brownfield site on Sittingbourne Road is currently used for informal car parking on the grounds of two demolished Victorian residential properties.

The 32 flats and eight terraced town houses will be built in an area that forms a gateway into central Maidstone from the M20 and channel ports. The scheme will explore the possibility of new construction methods through the innovative use of steel frame technology.

Kim Hitch, Associate, PRP said of the scheme, “it is a modern, bold statement providing an opportunity to further new ideas in terms of technology within a conservative city centre.”

Glazed entrances, red cedar timber and slate roofs will feature throughout the development whilst details are modern interpretations of more traditional elements. Courtyard elevations are light and open with balconies making the most of the quite internal courtyard and extensive views across the town. Top floor flats will also benefit from additional galleried roof space.
