An £11m retirement development designed and landscaped by PRP, one of Britain’s largest architectural practices, has received planning permission. The development in Wokingham, Berkshire will provide a range of housing and care facilities for retired members of the British film, cinema and television industries.
The complex, designed for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, is situated on the site of the existing Glebelands Care Home, a grade two listed building set in 11 acres of woodland grounds.
“PRP has extensive experience in the design of housing for older people,” said Clare Cameron, associate at PRP. “Understanding older people’s wants and needs has led to the design of a continuing care community that can fully provide for varying levels of dependency, from those recently retired to residents who are very frail.”
The new development will include remodelling of the existing care home to provide 35 en-suite bedrooms, 27 new build apartments with extra care and 41 retirement apartments for leasehold sale. A range of communal facilities will also be available including a cinema, restaurant, healthy living centre with a spa, treatment rooms and hairdresser.
“Glebelands is the Fund’s flagship care home,” said Peter Hore chief executive of the CTBF. “We are pleased that PRP are going to help us develop this into a high-quality continuing care home.”
