A new lease of eco-friendly life in Liverpool

25.04.2005

The scheme is one of the first in Liverpool to progress to this stage, following planning permission being granted this February. 175 new homes will be built using modern methods of construction to achieve building efficiency and sustainability. The homes will incorporate a modular timber panelling construction technique called Kingspan Tek, which provides energy efficiency standards exceeding those of current building regulations.

The homes will also achieve an EcoHomes Very Good rating and environmental improvements to the wider neighbourhood will ensure that the new designs blend with the houses and streets being retained.

“PRP hopes the Gilead Street scheme will set standards for other HMRI projects to follow,” said Graham Locke, Associate Director at PRP. “The scheme will uplift the area and lay the groundwork for a revitalised community in Kensington by providing sustainable homes set in a safe and accessible area.”

The scheme is a unique partnership between PRP, the Housing Corporation, English Partnerships, Kensington New Deal for Communities, RSL Riverside Housing and Community 7, developer Lovell, Liverpool City Council and local residents.

Tom McGuire, director of the lead housing association in Kensington - Community 7, said: “The new Gilead Street development will be a beacon of the changes in housing conditions, promised by New Deal and its partners.”

Forty five of the homes will be for rent and 24 for shared ownership through housing association Riverside Group with the remainder for private sale by Lovell. PRP was awarded the contract for design of the scheme after winning a competition entered with Lovell.

The project is being funded by English Partnerships, The Housing Corporation and Lovell. Kensington Regeneration and The Riverside Group are providing additional monies for improvements through its group subsidiary Community 7, to existing properties within the Holt Road neighbourhood.
