PRP, Gleeson Regeneration and Harvest Housing Group have been awarded planning permission for the retail phase at Manchester’s Grove Village, providing 2,000sqm retail and commercial space as well as 80 new apartments.
The traditional built blocks will front Stockport Road to open up the area and allow the shops to benefit from passing trade.
The entire ground floor of the two, four-storey blocks will provide retail and commercial units with one and two bedroom apartments available for sale on the remaining floors. Manchester College of Art and Technology (MANCAT) has already secured space in the development.
Jeremy Poulter, Project architect at PRP said: “This area of Grove Village is the key element of the development and will act as the hub of the village. The blocks will open up the area and allow the shops to benefit from passing trade.
Grove Village was the first Government backed PFI project to reach contract signature. The £90 million project, spanning 30 years, will regenerate the estate with 1,300 refurbished and new homes.
Construction work on the retail phase is scheduled to start late summer 2005.
