Peter Phippen, one of the original founders of PRP Architects Ltd, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by RIBA South East. RIBA South East asks its 2,500 members in Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Guernsey to nominate a local Member whose life and work should be recognised.
David Falla, Chairman of RIBA South East, says: “From its initial beginnings in Surrey, PRP Architects has made a significant contribution to the shape of housing in the UK. Peter’s ideas are still regarded as both groundbreaking and relevant to today’s concerns; and retain their freshness and impact. I am delighted that this Region’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognises Peter’s contribution, at a time when the quality of volume housing is once again an important issue.”
On receiving the award, Peter Phippen said: “'I feel honoured to receive this award which must be largely the product of my very happy and close partnership with Peter Randall and David Parkes, the co founders of the practice together with the support of Barry and Chris, the directors and of course all the loyal staff at PRP over the years. They all continually served to inspire, challenge and encourage me throughout my career and this award is as much about their contribution to architecture as it is about mine.”
Peter Phippen, in partnership with Peter Randall and David Parkes, founded the PRP practice (originally known as Phippen Randall and Parkes) in 1963, having studied together at the RWA School of Architecture in Bristol.
