Landscape design for a business school

Client: APU and Wilkinson Eyre Architects

The Michael Ashcroft International Business School is a landmark building for Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford. Our landscape team worked closely with the architects to create a landscape design that reflected the high quality and strong sustainability strategy of the building.

The design creates a new public square to the south of the building that terminates the pedestrian spine generated by the new university campus. A ‘causeway’ defined by specimen trees and a bold planting strip continues the footway around the west end of the building and along the riverside, culminating in the formal refectory terrace.

This project received The Civic Trust award which was announced at the Essex Design Initiative Plenary Exhibition held in Chelmsford on 9 December 2005.
