Peacock Farm, on the western edge of the town, is the missing piece of the development jigsaw that makes Bracknell. The large Greenfield site enjoys an exceptional landscape setting that includes Jennetts Hill and a large copse; both will be retained as an amenity for the benefit of the residents in Bracknell. The importance of a clear green break between Wokingham to the west and Bracknell is emphasised by a new country park that will be sculpted and planted in the landscape along the western boundary.
PRP were retained in 2003, after a framework plan had been prepared and public inquiry had been won, to prepare an illustrative masterplan and design statement for the long term development of the site. The proposals have recently received planning permission and will comprise a sustainable urban extension of 1300 dwellings, primary school, local health centre, wellbeing and community facility, shops and public house. The concept is based on best practice principles of urban design, with the layout responding to the landscape setting. It builds on the important links with the existing community so that the new neighbourhood is a natural extension to Bracknell. The civic buildings, shops and pub act as the ‘village’ heart, framed by the housing surrounding it. The homes are at a higher density near the centre reducing to a lower more informal arcadian quality near the landscape edges.
