Masterplan

Client: Portsmouth City Council

PRP led a team of consultants to undertake a community led regeneration strategy and costed implementation action plan for the Somerstown area of Portsmouth. Somerstown lies in the centre of the City and although well located, the local community suffers from significant levels of deprivation. PRP worked with the local community, the City Council and the Partnership Portsmouth & South East Hampshire to develop a physical masterplan which tackles movement, safety, housing, open space and community provision across Somerstown.

Following community consultation, PRP developed a costed implementation action plan outlining how the masterplan could be delivered over the next ten years in order to make Somerstown a destination of choice for residents and businesses. Key aspects of the masterplan and action plan include:

  • Improved pedestrian access and linkages to the City Centre and to the seaside.
  • Removal of poor quality open space and insecure routes through the area
  • Creation of a new community heart for Somerstown including usable open space and new community buildings.
  • Reprovision of 450 affordable homes funded through 500 extra homes for sale.
  • A deliverable decanting and funding proposal.
