Sustainable development

Client: Gallions Housing Association

The Thamesmead EcoPark project aims to exploit the latest European thinking on environmental sustainability. The housing has been designed by a Dutch architect and project managed by PRP. To complement the housing, and to promote better understanding of the principles of sustainability, PRP Architects has designed a Visitor Centre to demonstrate the use of a renewable structure; water as a precious resource; recycling and re-use of resources and alternative energy sources, as well as high density urban living.

PRP Project Services was appointed in 1999 as project managers for the Eco-park to provide costing services and procurement advice to the client. A bespoke best value tendering system, based on the principles of partnering, was developed by PRP. Willmott Dixon was subsequently selected as the chosen contractor and was appointed using the PPC2000 Partnering Contract.

PRP Project Services then worked with Willmott Dixon during the detailed design process to ensure the original environmentally sustainable concept is translated into reality in order to meet the objectives of the Dutch Green Finance Model and to achieve the BRE's Ecohomes 'Excellent' Rating. It will be the largest scheme yet to be awarded this rating. PRP Project Services was the client's Employers Agent managing cost, programme and quality issues.
