PRP was commissioned to undertake a strategic study of three sites across Newport in order to develop a strategic integrated approach to housing and care provision for older people across the city. The study was used as a basis for discussion between the client, the city and the local health authority.
PRP was subsequently commissioned by G&GHA to prepare a full planning application for an Extra Care scheme and a Residential Care Home on this site. The Extra Care flats are being provided as the first phase of this development.
The building has been designed as a three storey block with a U-shaped plan form that will enclose a secure southerly aspect courtyard garden as a central amenity area for the residents.
It is the clients intention that the ground floor flats will be made available to older people with mild to moderate dementia and that this wing be provided with its own garden.
The building has been design to be modern in terms of its form with a series of stepped monopitch roofs and a mixture of rendered and face brickwork walls.
PRP’s commission included the landscape design.
