Nursing Home

Client: Barchester Healthcare

The nursing home site forms part of a successful PFI scheme originally drawn up with Anvil Healthcare Group for a former hospital site in Oxted. The PFI scheme also included private housing, social housing and a Rehabilitation Centre for the local PCT. PRP secured Outline Planning Permission for the whole development and were then commissioned to develop the Nursing Home with Barchester and the Rehabilitation Centre with Cathedral Healthcare and the PCT.

The Nursing Home accommodates 75 residents including ten people via the local authority. One of the 15 bed residential clusters is designed for people suffering from dementia. Some staff accommodation is also provided in the building. Originally conceived as a 2 storey building, the roof space was adapted to accommodate additional bedrooms and staff accommodation during the design stages.

The timber framed building comprises five 15 bed clusters with communal rooms in each cluster. Most bedrooms have bay windows. The footprint has been carefully designed to fit around existing trees and the exterior elevations make extensive use of natural cedar boarding. The contractor was Castleoak Construction.
